The Ensemble Theatre of Kuala Lumpur
&
The Ministry
of Culture, Arts & Heritage present a double bill:
August Strindberg’s FACING DEATH
&
Jean-Paul Sartre’s NO EXIT

Directed by
Christopher Jacobs
From eight of Samuel Beckett’s short plays in “A Bucketful of
Beckett: 8 Shots” in May 2007 to a double bill this Sept. The KL
Ensemble returns with August Strindberg’s FACING DEATH and
Jean-Paul Sartre’s NO EXIT.
A one-act play, FACING DEATH is a heart-wrenching exploration of
a relationship between a father, whose love knows no bounds, and
his three manipulative daughters, who would do anything to
secure their own interests; daughters who suffer their own
personal agonies as they begin to comprehend how a father will
sacrifice everything to secure the future happiness of his
children ... even to the point of facing death.
One of Sartre’s landmark works, NO EXIT charts the story of a
man and two women caught in an Hadean menage a trios and
condemned for all eternity to exist in a hell of their own
making .... the hell of being doomed to be only in the eyes of
the other. The great irony being that any two of these three
characters could between them reach some sort of accommodation
and hence a tempering of their personal torment, but not one of
them can tolerate being part of a trio … and yet, are so afraid
of something worse, that they become prisoners of themselves.
Come share some thought provoking moments with us, as we take
you on a journey to discover what it means to live and to love.
